Stonehenge, Wiltshire, England
The most widely known stone circle, Stonehenge actually sits on a plain as part of a vast ritual landscape. The latest and most highly crafted circle is the child of thousands of other stone circles erected by the prehistoric Neolithic peoples of Europe. Over 900 standing stone circles exist today throughout the British Isles and Ireland. Stonehenge is the epitome, not an anomaly.
